Join the Seattle Debate Union

Seattle University Debate Team!

On our Team, you will . . .

Markedly improve your public speaking, research, and critical thinking skills.

Become better informed on issues affecting our local, national, and international community.

Meet new students and instructors from other schools.

Learn new information that will help you succeed in your classes.

Work with awesome people talking about interesting subjects.

Debating provides hands-on experience that . . .

increases your critical thinking, grows your knowledge of the world, and improves your written and oral expression.
Students from any majors are welcome in the program and everyone learns valuable information and communication skills.
With many opportunities for collaborative work in teams, along with supportive coaching, our program helps you to build your debating skills,
allowing you to take on new challenges and accomplish the goals you want to achieve.

Participating on the Seattle University Debate Union helps for any vocation but especially for lawyers, educators, business people,
those with public policy and political aspirations, scientists, and anyone who needs to communicate effectively.

What we do . . .

The Team does BP-Worlds Debate (YODL style) and a small amount of Team IPDA and Speaking Events.

We meet twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays in the evenings) for practice and preparation.

We attend tournaments in the Northwest, Online, and Nationally
(over the past two years, we’ve gone to Colorado, Hawaii, Tennessee, and California).

We also host tournaments for the elementary, middle school, high school, and college levels.

Most importantly, we have fun and we win!
