The tournament features:

·        4 rounds of IPDA debate plus elimination rounds.

·        Debate Online! From your school or from your home—wherever you have a reliable internet connection.

·        Tournament start at 10am, finish in 1 day.

·        Team format but debaters can debate solo.

·        Relaxed atmosphere and fun celebrating the ending of the season.

Check-in is 10am online with idebate.online

Prelim Rounds; begin at 10:15am; Finish at 7pm with awards.
Elims expected to finish at 8:30pm (9:50pm if we have 3 elims).

 

DIVISIONS, SPEAKING-PREP TIMES, ELIMS, AWARDS

 

IPDA Debate

ONE OPEN DIVISION WITH NOVICE BREAKOUT: We will offer IPDA debate in one division with a separate novice breakout.

SPEAKING AND PREP TIMES: We will use the Online Team Times format with approximately 25 minutes of preparation time (exact start time announced at topic announcement).

·        Topics announced on idebate.online; Teams strike topics; 20-25 minutes of preparation time with use of internet encouraged.\

·        A Constructive: present case supporting the topic (4 minutes)

·        2N asks 1A questions (2 minutes) while 1N prepares

·        1N Constructive: present neg case for 2.5ish minutes; refute the aff case (5 minutes)

·        1A asks 1N questions (2 minutes) while 2A prepares

·        2A Constructive: respond to the neg case for 2.5ish minutes; rebuild the aff case (5 minutes)

·        1N asks 2A questions (2 minutes) while 2N prepares

·        2N Constructive: rebuild 2/3 of the 1N arguments—eg reattack the aff case and/or defend parts of the neg case  (4 minutes)

·        2A asks 2N questions (2 minutes) while the 1NR continues to prepare

·        1NR Rebuttal: rebuild arguments not addressed by 2NC e.g. reattack the aff case; rebuild one of the neg case arguments (3 minutes)
1 minute for the 1AR to prepare

·        1AR Rebuttal: rebuild aff case, reattack negcase/arguments (4 minutes)
1 minute for the 2NR to prepare

·        2NR Rebuttal: rebuild neg case, reattack affcase/arguments (4 minutes)
1 minute for the 2AR to prepare

·        2AR Rebuttal: rebuild aff case, reattack negcase/arguments (3 minutes)

TOPICS: Debaters will be presented with five resolutions; each team will be allowed to strike two resolutions, thus leaving one resolution to be debated.

ELIMINATION BREAKS: We will break to elimination rounds with ties broken on W/L, high/low speaker points, then total speaker points. Brackets will be broken in elimination rounds. There will be a separate novice breakout.

DEBATER WIN-LOSS AWARDS: All elimination participants with honorary awards to the remaining top participants.

DEBATE SPEAKER AWARDS: Top speakers plus honorary awards for the remaining top participants. Adjusted speaker points (drop high-lows); Total Speaker points; Z score.

IPDA RULES: IPDA debate will use rules for the debates as presented in the IPDA constitution, which can be found at http://www.ipdadebate.info/constitution—bylaws.html

FEES: $25 per online debater (so a team is $50)

$60 per uncovered debate team.

Note that: each judge you provide covers 2 of your debate teams.

If you need to hire judges—please contact Jim by Tues. Apr. 23.

If you have more than 3 judges and more than 6 teams, judges beyond the first 3 MUST be able to judge your own teams (otherwise, we have trouble placing those judges).
